PHOTOS: EF-1Tornado Confirmed In Portland

7:00pm UPDATE: The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down for approximately 10 minutes at roughly 2:30 p.m.

5:15pm UPDATE: Emergency Services have advised us that they are conducting searches with dogs, to make sure the area is clear, and there are no people trapped in homes or buildings.

There are also reports of possible gas leaks, and Consumers Energy is on site to help with any possible gas leaks.

Please consider the city of Portland closed at this time. Do not try to travel through or go to Portland, let them do their work to make sure everyone is safe.

National Weather Service Grand Rapids: EF-1 Tornado Struck Kentwood

That wind and rain buried in a thunderstorm Sunday night that struck Kentwood just before 10:30 p.m. included a tornado, National Weather Service Grand Rapids meteorologist Brandon Hoving said.

Update (3 p.m.): The National Weather Service said the tornado was an EF-1, with peak winds of 100 to 110 miles per hour. The tornado, which injured six people, cut a swath of 300 to 400 yards wide near Cutlerville, Wyoming and Kentwood and lasted for about 10 minutes. It touched down at 10:20 p.m. at about 2 miles west of Cutlerville at 64th Street SW and Burlingame Avenue SW in Byron Township and ended at 10:30 p.m. at Breton Road and 28th Street SE.
