A new concept in Latin cuisine will soon be added to dining options in Grand Rapids’ Arena District. Luna is scheduled to open at 64 Ionia Avenue during the summer of 2015. The menu will feature contemporary Latin foods while embracing the rich culinary heritage of Latin America.

“Besides offering fine, classically cooked dishes with fresh, local ingredients, the restaurant will offer a unique dining experience,” said creator and locally-experienced restaurateur Mario Cascante. “The inspiration for Luna comes from visits to some of the best restaurants in the country and a desire to bring those unique experiences to West Michigan.”

The upscale restaurant is expected to be open seven days a week and will offer lunch and dinner options. Luna will have a full-service bar featuring Latin inspired signature cocktails. When the restaurant opens, it hopes to have options for outdoor seating along Ionia Avenue, using the parklet concept, which the City allows along the sidewalk and parking spaces in front of businesses.

The building is part of the GRid70, an innovative design hub, and is owned by Rockford Development. Construction for the street-level space, which Luna will occupy, is expected to begin in the coming days. Recently, the multi-story building received nearly $2 million worth of renovations, which included new windows, mechanical and electrical.

“Mario’s expertise and Luna’s creative and distinct concept will be a great addition to Ionia Avenue,” said Mike Mraz, partner, real estate development at Rockford Construction. “As our innovative office projects like Blue35 and GRid70 attract more talent to the area, we are excited to welcome Luna as a high-quality local option for business lunches, happy hour outings, or dinners with friends.”

Cascante expects to employ nearly 25 individuals when Luna opens.
