This weekend Michigan State Police are joining state police across the country for the annual Operation C.A.R.E. Life Saver Weekend as they look to help reduce the number of injury accidents especially during the last full weekend of holiday travel.

Friday Operation C.A.R.E. kicked off as officers are looking for drivers who are distracted, speeding or not using seatbelts.  C.A.R.E. stands for Crash Awareness and Reduction Efforts

Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, director of the MSP said in a press release:

“This is a very busy travel time as families and loved ones are celebrating, shopping and participating in other festive functions. Distractions are all around us. Troopers will be taking a zero-tolerance approach to impaired drivers and motorists exhibiting any unsafe driving, including not wearing their safety belt, texting while driving and traveling too fast for weather conditions.”

Operation C.A.R.E. started at midnight on Friday morning and will continue through Sunday at 11:59 pm.
