Why is it that so often local talent can't be appreciated in their own hometown?  Grand Rapids talent can travel the country, play to SOLD OUT crowds, get big laughs everywhere they go but when they come back home, Nada!  It's like Rodney Dangerfield use to say, "I can't get no respect."

Well, you may have never heard of some of Grand Rapids funniest guys, and girls, but it doesn't take away from the fact that the rest of the country adores them!

I had breakfast a few weeks ago with a talent agent and she shared with me some of the background on some of the comediennes performing tonight.  It was impressive!  A week or so ago I read a story on mLive.com that painted the picture a bit more clearly for me.

In a nutshell, tonight's headliners at The Pyramid Scheme include participants of the distinguished San Francisco Comedy Competition as well as writers on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.  Grand Rapids very own, Matt Lauria says tonight's talent is nothing short of impressive. “Each one of these guys are headliners."

It would be kind of nice, if while we support the National acts, we also support our own, the local guys, who feel the love everywhere else in the country.  Here's your chance let these local guys make you laugh.  The Homegrown Comedy Showcase, featuring Matt Lauria, Stu McCallister, David Dyer, Allen Trieu, and Floyd Phillips is tonight, March 13th at the Pyramid Sceme, 68 Commerce AVe. SW.  Admission is FREE! More information can be found at www.laughfestgr.org
