Spring break for most public school kids is next week. Many will take off for a quick vacation, but many others won't. If you and your kids will be home-bound next week, you may be stumped on what to do. Can't have bored kids hanging around the house all week, so, how about this?

This year, the Grand Rapids Public Museum, GRPM, says come spend Spring Break with us! They have activities planned from March 31st until April 9th. Families and kids are able to come eye to eye with whales in Whales: Giants of the Deep, and discover the excitement of bioluminescence in Creatures of light until 8 p.m. April 3 through 7 with the Museum’s special extended hours. By the way, this exhibit is free with admission.

There will be free hands-on activities in the Museum’s main floor Galleria, including watercolor printmaking, making your own origami whales and playing BIG games. Activities will be Monday, April 3 through – Saturday, April 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday April 2 and 9.

Don't forget the Chaffee Planetarium for the Museum’s newest shows! During Spring Break, the Museum offers additional show times for the most popular shows.

The Planetarium has their new show, Eclipses and Phases of the Moon takes a trip through space, allowing you to discover how Solar and Lunar eclipses happen and the mythology surrounding them. The new planetarium show, Escher’s Universe, shows the viewer a peek into the mind and world of artist, astronomer, and mathematician, M.C. Escher. This show features the mathematically inspired graphic arts of Escher through an art documentary. It explores Escher’s marvel of shapes, 3D reconstructions, dual worlds and unreal buildings.

Planetarium shows are $4 with general admission, $5 for planetarium only tickets and free to Museum members.

The cost for the museum has been greatly reduced.

  • Kent County residents - $5 for adults and $3 for seniors
