Grand Rapids Named Lonely Planet’s No. 1 U.S. Travel Destination for 2014
The marks were so good that Lonely Planet put Grand Rapids and West Michigan atop its list of “Top 10 U.S. Travel Destinations for 2014.”
Grand Rapids beat out destinations such as Yosemite National Park, Las Vegas and Lana’i, Hawaii!
Lonely Planet credits Grand Rapids’ craft breweries along with the festivals celebrating our tastes in craft brews. It also credits the art scene, giving mentions to Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, Grand Rapids Art Museum and ArtPrize.
Along with the attractions of the city, Lonely Planet also cites the West Michigan region as “Lake Michigan’s Gold Coast,” calling it “USA’s most unexpected beach getaway” and comparing it to Hawaii and Southern California’s Pacific Ocean coast.
