The Associated Press is reporting that Bob Welch, a former member of Fleetwood Mac who later had a solo career, has died at the age of 65 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police say that he was found by his wife around 12:15pm on Thursday in their Nashville home. He had suffered from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Welch handled both guitar and vocals for Fleetwood Mac from 1971 until 1974. He later formed the British rock group Paris, and had hits like  "Sentimental Lady"  and "Ebony Eyes". Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham did backing vocals on "Sentimental Lady."

Police said that he had had some health issues lately, and that a suicide note was left.
