Tom Cook

Hey, I’m the “new guy” here at 100.5 The River.  We’ll get to hang out for part of your workday and the drive home while you’re listening to Today’s Best Mix without the rap. Some people asked “why would you move HERE?” when I started.  I answer that question with disbelief and realize that people in GR simply don’t realize what a great city they have.  Grand Rapids is just a fantastic city.  The people, the downtown, the festivals, the philanthropy of our ‘famous families’ … the list goes on and on.  The VIBE of this city is just incredible.  Those who say “why would you move HERE?” clearly don’t realize how crappy most other similar sized cities are compared to GR. We moved here from the vibrant and clean city (#sarcasm) of Toledo, OH where I was the Operations Manager for six radio stations.  Before that, I was on-air or programming stations in Philadelphia, New York City, Milwaukee, Madison, Cedar Rapids (Iowa) and Waterloo (Iowa). My wife and I met in Madison and were married four days after 9/11.  We have two “furry kids” named Ollie (yellow lab/bassett/corgi) and Chester (bassett). I’m also the Program Director for Channel 95-7 and 100.5 The River, so if you have any comments, suggestions or complaints (I welcome compliments, too), just email or call me!

Checking Work Email After 6 p.m. Is Now Banned In France

I tend to work late most days, and because of that I end up sending and reading a TON of emails after most people would already be home spending time with the family. It doesn't bother me at all, but I guess there are some people who would rather not operate that way. Turns out, if I lived in France, I would totally have change that, though.

Thursday, two employee unions and federations in France signed an agreement that requires employees to disconnect after the workday ends at 6 p.m. sharp.

Tom Cook’s Workday Dog Break – Big Dog Is Afraid Of Tiny Leaf

I can't lie, I love doing my "workday dog break" for a couple of different reasons. First of all, I love sharing these adorable dogs with all of you. But a close second is that I love taking time out of my day to find these videos (and watch them).

Today, I came across another great one. In this video, a "big, vicious" dog meets its nemesis - a tiny leaf.

By Laurenda Marie Bennett

Double dark chocolate brownies with avocado.

Yes, you read that correctly: avocado! The avocado replaces butter in the recipe.

I hope you haven't left yet. These are also refined sugar and flour free.

Are you still here? ;)

I adapted this recipe from a fellow blogger. And let me tell you, these cookies do not disappoint.
