Everyone I know seems to have received their check, so I was feeling a little left out, until I found out I'm not alone.

Most State Car Owners Have NOT Received Their Check

Most people I have asked about getting their insurance check say they have received it, but it turns out, that's anecdotal evidence. Most owners haven't received their check yet.

Every driver in Michigan who had insurance as of October 31, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. will receive $400 per car as a refund from the Catastrophic Fund.

But only about a third of all registered car owners have received their payment through this week.

That means two-thirds or about 66 percent of car owners are still waiting, and wondering like me, if maybe I missed it.

Some Car Owners Say The Check Looked Like Spam

The persistence of junk mail coming to my house made me worried that I might have tossed it away, so this news makes me feel a little better, BUT some folks who got their money say it did resemble junk mail.

"It actually looked like spam almost. I almost tossed it but was then like, 'Oh,'" Michigan driver Brandon Boudreau told FOX 17 News.

So if you're still waiting like I am, it may be prudent to be very, very vigilant when sifting through your mail.

Contact Your Insurance Provider, Not The State If You're Curious

If you're not sure whether you may have tossed it, like me, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services, says your beef is with your agency, not them.

However, says Anita Fox, Director of MDIF told FOX 2 Detroit, "If you cannot reach a resolution with your insurance company, call DIFS at 833-ASK-DIFS Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for assistance, or visit Michigan.gov/MCCArefund for more information."
