What do you see on everything Grand Rapids? It's on street signs, dumpsters, trucks, cars, buildings. It's everywhere!

What is it? Is it a sort of bat sign calling Batman? Maybe Pacman?

No, silly. It's the symbol of Grand Rapids that has literally become Grand Rapids city logo, and for some reason people are confused by it.

Grand Rapids has adopted the logo as a symbol of the city, so it's even on clothing for city employees as well as promotional items advertising the city.

So, you get it, right? Many people don't, and I don't get why because it seems so simple to me.

The yellow would be considered sunny, with the red of course being La Grande Vitesse, better known as The Calder, and the blue running through it is obviously the Grand River. Simple!

Fox17 reported Joseph Kinnebrew, a famed and popular local artist, designed it in the 70s and the city decided to use it in the 80s.

Actually, we do have an official flag for Grand Rapids, created back in 1915, according Vexillologh.fandom.com.

"It consists of a vertical tri color of dark blue, white, dark blue. In the middle of the white bar is the seal of Grand Rapids with a ring of circles. This is followed by "CITY OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICH." On the bottom is the city motto ?"MOTU VIGET" meaning from Latin to English as: Strength in Activity."

Before you say it, no, it is not a parking flag. Get it, MOTU? Okay, maybe not.
