dog or cat from a rescue group, than a pet store or a breeder. Sixty-percent would adopt a rescued animal, compared to 14-percent who would go to a breeder and just four-percent who said they would buy one from a store. For most people, personality tops pedigree and appearance when picking out a pet. Nearly two thirds look first at the animal's temperament, and 98-percent agree they don't care as much about the dog or cat's lineage or looks. Many pet owners consider their animal a member of the family. Nearly half say their pet is "like a child" to them, while 42-percent say their pet is comparable to a good friend.
