What Does Carapace Mean, Anyway?

Congratulations to Christopher Walstra, winner of the Greater Grand Rapids Spelling Bee

. Chris is an eighth grader at Legacy Christian School. Last night, Chris correctly spelled "carapace" to earn the right to represent our area at the national championships in Annapolis, Maryland. I know how proud his parents must be, since my son Braden did the same last year. We had a terrific week in Washington, D.C. as Braden did his spelling thing. They call it a national championship but Chris will compete against bright young people from around the world. Sure, Braden was there to win a spelling championship but we tried to make the week as fun as possible. We did all the tourist things and saw as much as we could. We had a great time and Braden did well in the event. He is more proud of providing a good time for his family...that part I think I appreciate the most. Anyway, good luck Chris Walstra, spelling bee champion.
