The West Michigan Symphony is out to reach you.  Yes, YOU, Mr. "I'm not going to the symphony" person.  They're presenting two free outdoor concerts on Thursday, Aug. 23, in Fremont, and Friday, Aug. 24, in Spring Lake, both starting at 7 p.m.

The concerts will feature compositions by such popular composers as Bartok, Tchaikovsky and Sibelius, patriotic favorites such as "The Star Spangled Banner" and “Stars and Stripes Forever,” and selections from Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake Suite."  And, remember, they're FREE!

For the children they're having a pre-concert Instrument Petting Zoo that begins at 6:15 p.m. before both concerts and it's also free of charge.  Children will have the opportunity to handle and play instruments from each of the four instrument families, strings, brass, woodwind and percussion.  WMS staff will be on hand to help children with the instruments and answer questions.  Part of the Symphony’s educational and community outreach program, the Petting Zoo is a fun and interactive way for children to explore and learn about the various musical instruments.

The Thursday, Aug. 23 concert will be at Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Fremont, presented by the Newaygo County Council for the Arts and the Fremont Area Community Foundation. The Friday, Aug. 24 concert will be at Mill Point Park in Spring Lake (located at the end of School Street, south off of M-104).  It will be sponsored by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation and the Marion A. and Ruth K. Sherwood Family Fund.
