Beloved and Special Fox17 Former Employee Dies Suddenly
Mike Davis, a beloved part of West Michigan morning news on Fox17 for many years, died unexpectedly. Many are mourning his loss.
If you were a Fox17 morning news viewer you know Mike Davis. He wasn't an anchor, or weatherman, or sportscaster. He was the floor director.

The floor director of any television broadcast is a huge key to it's success. He directs the anchors and reporter to their positions, indicated which camera is live, moves special guests to their show locations, relays information from the show director and so much more. Mike Davis was even more.
Fox17 reported that Davis began his broadcasting career in 1983 as a commercial editor at the station before moving to the news department, and eventually became the morning broadcast floor director.
But it soon became apparent that he had more to offer than pointing from camera to camera. The anchors began to include him in the broadcast. His quick sense of humor endeared him to not only the anchors but the viewers as well, and he became a a daily part of the morning news.
My good friend, Kim Krause, who was the general manager of Fox 17 at the time, said that when she came onboard she couldn't figure out why the floor director was included in the broadcast. That was until she saw the reaction of those in the studio and the viewing public. Mike Davis was something special.
Mike, always simply called "Davis" on the show, was included in so many segments of the show from cooking to Halloween costumes and all sorts of crazy antics.
A Vietnam vet, Mike Davis worked 40-years at Fox17 and retired in January, 2025.
Mike's family shared that there would be a private memorial for family and friends only.
