Just the other day I was looking at places I could do a weekend road trip to and was considering Toronto or Niagra Falls, and then I realized I'd have to cross the border into Canada ( I don't have to go through Canada to get to Niagra, but that's how I'd want to go.) Problem is, the pandemic has closed the border crossing, and as of Thursday morning, we now know that's going to stay in place for another month and a half.
Homeland Security posted on Twitter (@DHSgov) that they were extending the restriction on non-essential travel to Canada and Mexico,
To prevent the further spread of COVID-19, and in coordination with our partners in Canada and Mexico, the United States is extending the restrictions on non-essential travel at our land borders through April 21, while ensuring continued flows of essential trade and travel.
They go on to say in a follow-up tweet,
Informed by science and public health guidance, we will work with our counterparts to identify an approach to easing restrictions when conditions permit and with the protection of our citizens from COVID-19 at the forefront of our minds.
