The Canadian band 'Headstones' released this last year. Considering they knocked a full 90 seconds off the length of the dirge, it can't be all bad, right?

Headstones did this pretty respectful remake of the Gordon Lightfoot classic in 2019, but somehow I just found out about it now.

Headstones are described as a "punk-influenced rock band". I'm not really sure what that means, but this version moves at a pretty good clip and the guitar playing and vocals are decent. And since they are Canadian, I believe it's their God-given duty to cover a Gord song or two.

If I was on "RATE-A-RECORD", I'd give it a 80. I kind of like it. Your mileage may vary.

Stick around for when they slow it down to a military march tempo for the "lakes" and "memorial" verses, and then bring in the bagpipes. And just ask AC/DC, bagpipes make any song rock.
