More Scary Scams Are Just Waiting to Take Your Money!

I have written about so many scams lately that I'm beginning to feel we may become hardened to yet another scam.

Many people quite honestly are saying so what, here comes another scam and I'm not worried because I am not that stupid to fall for anything.

Think again. Scam artists are becoming more sophisticated and many smart people are falling for them and losing money.

This time Ionia County Sheriff's office has issued a warning to all of us to be careful because another seemingly authentic scam via text has been going around the county.

It is a bench warrant supposedly coming from Wayne County Traffic Division and you had better pay up or else. It looks just like the real thing don't you think?

Guess what?

SCAM!!

The Ionia County Sheriff says that the red flag here is that no law enforcement agency will ever serve a bench warrant by text, ever! SCAM! And, yet, some folks have fallen for it. Ouch!

But wait! There is another!

Mercantile Bank here in West Michigan just called to alert me of a scary crime happening here. The bad guys are finding ways to get hold of some Home Equity Lines of Credit account and routing numbers and submitting fraudulent checks against the account. They are tapping the line of credit leaving the borrower holding the bag and debt.

Those certainly are two numbers, account and routing, that you want to guard with your life. Be very careful if and when you have to provide them.

It's a tough world out there. Guard yourself!
