Rockford High School boys' water polo player David Newberger is this week's Meijer-97.9 WGRD Athlete of the Week. Newberger excels athletically and academically, standing out on a team currently ranked No. 1 by the Michigan Water Polo Association with a 17-1 record after a 15-7 win Wednesday night over East Kentwood. West Michigan was well represented over the weekend as Michigan's spring season for high school sports begins to wind down. East Kentwood, Kelloggsville, and Rockford each brought home a team championship!

The U.S. Women's Water Polo Team was in a hard-fought battle against Australia today. With time running out and a 9-8 lead, the United States was trying to hold on as Australia desperately tried to score in the semi-final match. With just 1 second left, U.S. Coach Adam Krikorian called a timeout.  It was an illegal timeout.
