It’s been a decade since Will Smith was “Will Smith” onscreen. Sure, he’s made movies in the last ten years; science-fiction pictures, dramas, comedies. He even played Satan, once. But none of them riffed on that classic Will Smith persona that everyone loves; the infectious charm, the seductive smile, the cocky but casual swagger. (What’s that? Men in Black 3? No, they never made a third Men in Black. You must be confused.)
Back in October, it was reported that ‘Lucy’ and ‘Avengers 2’ star Scarlett Johansson had been offered $10 million to anchor the new, American (and live-action) version of the classic Japanese anime ‘Ghost in the Shell.’ It took a while for Johansson to decide (“Hm, do I really want $10 million? This is a tough one!”), but Variety now says she’s made up her mind: Johansson will star in the new ‘Ghost’ for director Rupert Sanders.
Following yesterday's glimpse at the first images from 'Focus' comes the first official trailer for what's being described as a con-man romance film from the guys who brought us 'Crazy Stupid Love.' In 'Focus,' Will Smith definitely seems to be playing a slick variation on Ryan Gosling's character from their previous film, and if anyone knows how to play slick and charismatic, it's Will Smith, for sure.
