Lena Meijer Passes Away at 102. A Sad Loss for West Michigan

Over the years, Meijer has produced many commercials. While scrolling through YouTube recently, I found this classic Merry Meijer Christmas commercial from 1987!

The whale hanging from the ceiling at the Grand Rapids Public Museum has an interesting history.

I went out for a very colorful ride on the east half of the Fred Meijer M-6 Trail the morning of July 4. Flowers and weeds are blooming.

The 2016 Fred & Dorothy Fichter 'Butterflies Are Blooming' exhibit is now open! It was magical walking through the greenhouse with all of the butterflies buzzing around. It was a welcome taste of spring.

West Michigan lost a great man on Friday, and as a community, we are mourning. Fred Meijer was a true leader in West Michigan, who gave back to the community who gave him so much joy. Today, Fred Meijer will be laid to rest. Our friends at WZZM 13 will be streaming the memorial service live. You can watch the memorial below.

Fred Meijer was well-known for years of leading Meijer grocery stores.  He was also greatly respected for his work as a philanthropist in West Michigan. Meijer died Friday night following a stroke.
