Studs Nightclub (for ladies) Is Open

The owner of an exotic dance club in Grand Rapids is expanding his business.  Studs nightclub opened Thursday night.  Yes ladies,  it features male exotic dancers every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.

WZZM 13 says Mark London owns Lady Godiva's nightclub and the adult bookstore next door.  He says he began the process of opening Studs in August of 2009 -- more than three years after the city passed an ordinance banning all nude and topless dancing.

Despite the restrictions, London says he hasn't encountered any protests.

"We really didn't face any opposition.  Just the difficulty of getting a liquor license and approvals through the city really held us up.  But the city's been extremely cooperative.  I really can't say we've had any problems at all with the city or the community.  No word from the community whatsoever," said London.

Grand Rapids' 2006 ordinance also requires a six foot distance between dancers and customers.

WZZM 13 contacted Judy Rose, a supporter of the ordinance.  She says she does not oppose what London is doing, as long as he obeys the law.
