Flying Southwest Grand Rapids? You Can Now Book Your Seats!
It was 53 years ago, 1972, a small airline started up in Dallas offering some attractive deals for flyers.
First of all, it was first come seating. When you boarded the plane you simply picked your seat.
Secondly, you didn't have to pay for bags. You got two bags for free.
Things have changed at Southwest!
Regarding your bags, now you have to pay for checked baggage. That is for the most part. Rapids Rewards members do get their 1st checked bag free, with other regulations depending on your level of the Rapids Rewards program. That program went into effect on May 28 this year. CHECK HERE for the complete Southwest policy.
What about that seating policy?
Now you are able to pick your seat in advance!
You can now book an assigned seat, as all other airlines do. However, not quit yet.

It actually goes into effect next year, 2026, beginning on January 27th. Good news is you can book your flights and seats beginning today for next year!
ABC News Go.com reported this is basically how it works.
"The new fare products include Choice Extra, Choice Preferred and Choice -- formerly called Business Select, Anytime and Wanna Get Away Plus -- along with the previously announced, Wanna Get Away fare class that's now called Basic. Choice Extra, the top fare bundle, includes an extra legroom seat, Choice Preferred includes a new preferred seat, and Choice includes a standard seat to be selected while booking. Customers can also opt to purchase a seat upgrade to elevate their travel experience."
It's not easy to sort through all of the Southwest changes, so CLICK HERE for some help figuring it out.
Happy flying!
