Who didn't like Sister Act, the movie with Whoopi Goldberg. In fact Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, were great movies, and were rated as two of the top comedies in movies, ever! They spawned Sister Act, The Musical, and Grand Rapids Civic Theatre has the pleasure on presenting it for a months run, opening next Friday night, February 26.

What a hit the musical was with a long run on Broadway. Now, after that successful Broadway tour, Civic Theatre received performance rights to produce the show. And, this show has all of the glamour and energy that you should expect from a Broadway Blockbuster – great scenery, gorgeous costumes, snappy one-liners and show-stopping dance numbers. A key highlight of the show is the original music is by Tony® and Oscar® winning composer, Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors).

I had a chance to meet part of the cast and work in a dance number with them. I learned one thing, keep my day job?

Julianne Howe-Bouwens has the Whoopi Goldberg role of Deloris VanCartier, and is, no doubt, a star in this show with the comedic timing of Goldberg and a powerful voice that reminds me of Donna Summer and the disco divas of the 1970’s. With a super supporting cast of nuns and thugs, you'll be laughing, crying, and cheering.
