This is something that I think should be on all school buses, as we continue to hear stories of children getting hit by cars because they’re distracted and miss the stop sign on the school bus.

A school district in Maine has decided to step up school bus safety by adding a second stop sign that actually extends out into the street.  According to the video from News Center Maine, the new stop arm extends an additional 6 feet from the little 18 inches that’s required by law and installed on all school buses.

The transportation director News Center Maine spoke to in Maine says the new stop arms have significantly changed the number of people passing the bus when dropping or picking up kids.  Which I would guess so because if you didn’t stop, you’ll probably need to replace a windshield and extended bus arm.

Do you think Michigan Schools should add this safety arm?
