The Straits of Mackinac will have a new ferry next year as Shepler's has announced the name of their new boat.

According to the story from M-Live,  Shepler's new ferry will be called, William Richard in honor of CEO Bill Shepler.

The new ferry will be finished next year and will be a jet driven boat.  It will hold 210 passengers and cruise the Straits of Mackinac at 30 miles per hour.

The William Richard is currently being built in Onaway.  The latest Shelper boat, The Miss Margy was also built there.

Once completed the boat will be taken to Rogers City where it will be put into deep water.  Once in Rogers City it will make the trip up to Mackinaw City and the company docks.

Look out for the new boat next year if you head up to the Island.   For more on Shepler's and their Island schedule or their special cruises you can visit their website here.
