Santa Claus Girls a Big YES For This Year
It wasn't the Pandemic that caused last years Santa Claus Girls toys for kids in need, although it did play a part, it was a loss of a building. But this year is different, and YES, the toys for needy kids and families is on!
The COVID19 pandemic is not going away anytime soon, but neither are the Santa Claus Girls, and they will not be canceling their Christmas plans this year.
They lost their facility last year, and the nonprofit had to cancel its gift distribution for the first time in 112 years.
Fox17 reported that thanks to donated space from an area business, the group plans to shift operations to a curbside pickup this year. But, it's a big task, because what normally would take months to do, sorting and arranging gifts, will now have to be done in just four days!
They will be working out of West Michigan CDL, and that's a working facility so they'll have the building for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, December 9- December 12, to make it happen.
The organization typically helps thousands of families in Kent County each year. Kids are given toys, books and pajamas, along with handmade hats and mittens.
Sadly though, due to the space crunch, they will be limited to helping around 6,000 kids; which is approximately half the usual amount.
The Santa Claus Girls are hopeful they may also receive a special gift of their own this year. They're hoping there's a business or some one out there that is able to give them some space after this season.
Registration for the Santa Girls 2021 gift distribution began September 1st. They said gifts must be picked up by families on Saturday, December 11, 2021, and that families must register by December 1st, 2021 to receive gifts.
