Good grief, we seem to be asking ourselves all the time, what about Grand Rapids? Are we going to lose another one of our favorite, major retailers?

Every time I read the news I find another retail giant has decided to close some of their stores because they are "underperforming." In other words, customers aren't coming in!

I'm sure tired of writing about closings since just last week I wrote about Macy's announcing their stores to close.

So, who is it this time?

Here we go again1

CNN reports that Kohl's will be closing 27 stores across more than a dozen states as the struggling retailer looks to improve profitability.

They are moving pretty fast since Kohl's says they will close the designated stores by April. Holy closure!

And, not only is Kohl's closing stores, CNN reports, they are replacing their CEO Tom Kingsbury with the CEO of Michaels, Ashley Buchanan. Kingsbury is retiring so Kohl's needed to make a major move quickly.

We consumers have certainly changed our shopping habits, and retailers, especially major ones, have had a difficult time keeping up. We all are shopping so much online and not instore, that with customer traffic down, how does a big retailer, who has trouble moving quickly, adjust to handle the changes. Not quickly enough I guess.

What does one do?

Cut where it is not profitable to operate anymore. Ouch!

So, with the 27 stores closing around the country, we have to ask ourselves, what about us? What about Grand Rapid?
