REMINDER: Fireworks are NOT Allowed in National Forests
As we approach a holiday week, and before you start shooting off fireworks anywhere, remember that fireworks are not allowed in U.S. National Forests.
In a press release from the Huron-Manistee National Forest they say that
...fireworks pose a substantial wildfire risk and should be left at home.
This season alone forest rangers have already had to respond to 90 wildfires and 98% of them were caused by a person. This can be prevented by not bringing fireworks and by using safety tips when camping this summer.
The Huron-Manistee National Forest recommends:
- Making sure all cigarettes, cigars, etc are completely put out when not in use
- Make sure lighting and heating devices are cool before refueling
- Properly install and maintain spark arresting devices on all internal combustion engines, including in ATVs and motorcycles.

Other national forests in Michigan are Hiawatha National Forest and Ottawa National Forest.
