Do you turn your front porch lights on?

We do at our house. For one thing so we or visitors can see. For another thing, for security.

National Night Out, always the first Tuesday in August, is a community policing awareness campaign. Grand Rapids and communities around West Michigan always encourage people to get out, turn the porch light on and meet your neighbors.

Seriously, we probably could be changing the color of our porch lights monthly.

For example, our Grand Rapids stations wrote about having a blue light that shows your support for Autism or possibly the police. A red light is to draw attention to Heart Month or first responders. In addition, we wrote about having a green porch light on to remind our veterans how much we appreciate them.

But what about a purple porch light?

That was a new one for me, but if you have a purple porch light on it is a way for you to show your support and raise awareness for victims of domestic and sexual violence,  sister station Q105.7 Classic Rock reported.

Even though it has passed, the first full week in March was NO MORE WEEK!  That is a week where all of us are encouraged to break the silence, shine a spotlight on the epidemic of domestic and sexual violence that impacts 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men globally, and encourage collective action to stop it.

I am behind this all the way, and deeply feel we should be having a purple porch light on more than one week a year!

What about you?
