Popular Grand Rapids’ Sports Bar Bans Russian Spirits
In light of all of the conflict in the Ukraine, one Grand Rapids Bar Owner is doing what he can to help the war effort.
Located downhill from the Medical Mile, Bob's Bar is a Chicago-style pub that has the quintessential classic American bar vibe once you enter.
Bob's bar has described itself as a 'Local sports bar with many TVs. Great drink prices and daily specials. A fun local hangout offering a comfortable friendly environment.' It seems though, that sports aren't the only thing they have been watching.
On the morning of February 24th after the news of the invasion of Ukraine, Bob's Bar posted on their Facebook page that "Bob's bar will no longer sell Russian vodka"
The bar’s owner, Bob Quay told Grand Rapids' Wood TV News 8 that he hopes this move will spark conversation with customers, saying
“I mean, it’s just a statement. It’s not gonna cause (Russian President) Vladimir (Putin) to move out of Ukraine,” Quay said. “But yeah, it’s a small statement on behalf of this local bar here. It’s what I can do.”
Others have been prompted by this move to do a little more research on the spirits in the FB post in question.
With the truth about the vodka's parent company in the comments. One commenter laid out a hard truth and probably the most productive idea for Bob's Bar or anyone who wants to help out.
