Pizza Hut is Closing More Stores! Could Michigan be Next?

Remember the mass closing of 300 Pizza Hut locations across the country in 2020?

Pizza Hut is doing it again.

Will we be next?

Oh, no! The horror of not being able to get a deep dish Pizza Hut pizza again, may keep me awake at night!

Pizza Hut just abruptly closed 15 stores in the Midwest, mostly in Northern Indiana. However, 120 more stores may be on the chopping block.

According to our sister station KIX105, it is an internal civil war between Pizza Hut and one of their large franchisees, EYM Group. That group owns 142 Pizza Hut locations in Illinois, Indiana, Georgia, South Carolina and Wisconsin.

Pizza Hut says EYM defaulted on millions of dollars in payments due by a June deadline.

So Pizza Hut slapped at EYM by closing 15 of their stores. There wasn't any warning of the coming closings. Even the employees weren't notified until suddenly, oops, the doors are locked.

Meanwhile, EYM has sued Pizza Hut claiming they have not modernized their menus and stores to keep up with the competition.

And the battle continues.

It does seem that possibly the "dine-in" style pizza restaurant is fading. The other big chains are pretty much delivery or simple pickup, with Pizza Hut lagging behind.

It has been the "dine-in" stores that Pizza Hut has closed.

So, what about Michigan and Grand Rapids?

The good news here is that EYM does not own any Michigan stores so maybe our remaining locations are okay for awhile.

Actually, nobody knows for sure because, who owns our stores, anyway?
