Hundreds of kayakers, standup paddle boarders and surfskiers will take part in the inaugural Paddle Relay Around Lower Michigan.

The event is a relay-style water tour of Michigan's coastline.

The relay will be led by an Epic V7 surfski. The open-cockpit kayak will make the entire 1,100 mile journey paddled by as many as 1,000 different people over the three-month relay. Others will join as it leads the way along the coast.

The Paddle Relay Around Lower Michigan will launch from Belle Isle on June 1, then head south to Ohio as people paddle legs of 2-10 miles.

After arriving in Ohio, the relay will head up Michigan's western shoreline in June, across the top of the state in July, down the eastern shoreline in August, and finish at Belle Isle on August 28th.

The event will raise money for local charities through sponsors and donations.
