WZZM 13’s new Sport Director is Jamal Spencer, a Michigan native from the Metro Detroit area and a Graduate of Michigan State University. He is returning home to the Great Lakes State from Fargo, North Dakota were he ran the sporting news at KVLY/KXJB. Jamal’s start date at WZZM 13 is Monday, November 17th.

Their new Sports Reporter/MMJ is Adriana Mendez originally from Kenosha Wisconsin. Mendez. She is returning to the Mid-West after a stint at the sports office of KWKT in Waco Texas. Adriana’s first day will be Monday, November 24th.

“Jamal and Adriana are avid sports fans,” said Janet Mason, WZZM 13 President. “Jamal’s knowledge of Michigan sports teams is a reflection of his love for his home state and athletic teams.”

Both Jamal and Adriana said they can't wait to begin and to focus on finding and telling the uniquely West Michigan stories of the athletes, coaches, fans, and sports programs in the area.

Long time Sports Anchor Brent Ashcroft will be leaving the sports department to pursue his dream of in depth feature length story telling. Brent has won several Associated Press, Michigan Association of Broadcasters and Edward R. Murrow awards for his heartfelt and touching pieces in the past.
