We're all familiar with the dangers of tanning and Michigan lawmakers want to ensure the safety of minors by banning use at tanning salons.

A bill was introduced by the House that would prohibit tanning facilities from allowing anyone under the age of 18 to use any of their devices. If violated, the owner would face a $150 fine [per violation] and misdemeanor. Current law states that anyone under 18 is allowed to tan with permission from a parent or guardian.

A doctor at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital told MLive that the chance of getting skin cancer "significantly increases" when someone starts using a tanning bed at a young age.

Currently, there are 18 states that ban minors from using tanning facilities.

Something similar was introduced in 2013 but was not passed.
