Unbelievably Natural Gas Water Heaters To Be Banned In Grand Rapids?
This was certainly shocking over the weekend. With little or no fanfare, President Biden signed an order that would ban natural gas water heaters.
Is this a joke? Nope!

However, before you get all hot and bothered, this ban is only for certain natural gas water heaters, according to USA Today.com. What we are talking about here are TANKLESS water heaters, not the regular storage tank most of us have in our homes today.
Our sister station, KEZJ 95.7 reported that The Washington Free Beacon explained the new rules for TANKLESS water heaters:
'The rules apply to instantaneous water heaters, of which there are two types: non-condensing and condensing. But the rules hike efficiency requirements to a threshold that only condensing models can meet, effectively banning the cheaper but less efficient non-condensing models.'
WHY THE BAN?
The USA Today.com article says he intention is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, which climate change advocates and Biden said cause global warming, according to Fox Business.
WHAT TYPE OF WATER HEATER CAN I BUY?
The common type we are used to today, the storage tank type of water heater. It is cheaper than the tankless ones, but are not quite as efficient according to the New York Post.
I HAVE A REGULAR TANK WATER HEATER SO WHERE ARE TANKLESS HEATERS USED?
The New York Post says tankless water heaters are frequently used in smaller apartments or housing spaces, which means that a lot of lower-income and elderly people tend to use those types of water heaters, and that could be an economic burden to many.
IS THERE ANY SAVING HERE?
Yes, but just a little. The Department of Energy estimated the costs saved over the long run by the new rules would be about $112 over a roughly 20-year stretch.
If you do have a tankless water heater, the "heater police" won't be coming to your home to take your water. However, if you do have to replace yours, or you choose to go tankless, you will have to buy the better, more efficient model.
