The second Michigan state park to be named a dark sky park is located in South West Michigan.

According to WOOD, the International Dark Sky Association has announced that the Dr. T.K. Lawless Park in Cass County is now a dark sky destination.

The park is east of Cassopolis, between Vandalia and Jones.

An area near Mackinaw City was the first to have a dark sky park at Headlands International Dark Sky Park.

Cass County board member Robert Parrish said, "the final application was over 60 pages and we have been working on it for close to two and a half Year. We had to go through an inventory of all our lights."

Parrish said, "it allows people to see the stars that many people cannot see anymore because of light pollution."

Cass County Parks Director Scott Wyman said, "we're one of 66 properties in the United States with that designation."

If you like to gaze at the stars the park is holding Discover Winter Nights events on Saturdays from 5 p.j. to 9 p.m. now through February 8th.
