Michigan's newest Teacher Of the Year is from our area!

She is Ottawa Hills High School biology teacher Bobbi Jo Kenyon.  Mrs. Kenyon is the first GRPS teacher to win this award in over 50 years.  She's been teaching science and math for over 16 years - 14 of them at Ottawa Hills and says it's not just a big deal for her and GRPS, but also a success for inner-city teachers.

Mrs. Kenyon told WOOD TV8,

To me, this is where I feel that I'm most needed.  I can make the biggest difference here and I believe that these kids need good teachers just as much as anybody else. My big philosophy is to teach these kids as if they're in any school, as if they are all going to Harvard. You know, just give them the same opportunity everyone else would to teach them because they deserve it.
