The Exciting Michigan State Fair Returns With Rides And Pig Races
I always loved fairs. As a kid I couldn't wait for our local Delaware County Fair in Muncie, Indiana. We would spend all day at the fair!
Then there was the huge Indiana State Fair that typically welcomes nearly one million visitors every year. They always have top entertainment, too. I saw the Jackson 5 there way back when! That's a blast from the past!
The Michigan State Fair, not nearly the spectacle as the two-and-a-half week Indiana State Fair, is coming up during this Labor Day weekend. It's only five days over that weekend, but is packed with everything you would expect from a big fair.
"Beginning way back in 1849, the Michigan State Fair was one of the first in the U.S. It was always on Woodward Avenue in Detroit, and closed down in 2009 due to budget problems. But, there was huge interest to bring it back, and it has returned as a private sector event," the Fair says.

The Midway will have all the ride thrills, fun houses, and games you can never win but never stop trying. You really want that giant Teddy Bear, don't you.
There will be lots of top entertainment along with a big talent search, the Superstar competition, several nights and crowning a winner on Monday, Labor day.
You'll be able to wander through the barns to see the livestock, watch pig races, the home brew competition, the giant pumpkins, the Michigan butter cows, baking contests, home arts, and even watch the Sea Lions perform.
And what's not to like about all the fair food that's not good for us. Footlongs, Corn Dogs, Elephant Ears, Cotton Candy, Popcorn, Carmel Corn, and nearly every kind of pop you can imagine.
The Michigan State Fair is in Novi, suburban Detroit, at the Suburban Collection Showplace located at 46100 Grand River Avenue, between Novi and Beck Roads in Novi, MI. You can easily get to it from I-96 at the Novi and Beck Road exits.
