I'm always amazed when people just fly by a stopped school bus. Is it a lack of knowledge or a lack of care for others' safety?  A couple of government officials are hoping it's the first.

Fox 17 reports that Michigan Senator Gary Peters along with Indiana Senator Todd Young has reintroduced the Stop for School Buses Act.

The Stop for School Buses Act if passed would take a detailed look at successful strategies that would prevent drivers from passing a school bus while loading or unloading kids. Fox 17 also says that the act would have the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration research and identify illegal passing laws in each state as well any safety protocols currently used. Then use that research to find ways to prevent the illegal passing of school buses. They’d also create a marketing campaign emphasizing why it’s so important for us all to practice bus safety.

Senator Peters told Fox 17,

“We need to do everything we can to help keep kids safe on their way to and from school, and that’s why it’s time for a much-needed review of safety laws surrounding school buses,” says Peters. “By passing the Stop for School Buses Act, we can identify best practices and make our communities safer for children and families.”
