We're only a month into the new school year and several West Michigan School Districts are being impacted by bus driver shortages. This week Newago Public Schools Superident Jeff Wright had to share the bad news with parents and students via the Newaygo Public Schools Facebook Page.

Dear Lion Family,
We will not be able to provide transportation to and from school on Wednesday, September 29th, Thursday, September 30th, and Friday, October 1st as we currently do not have enough available drivers to cover our routes.

We have attempted to combine and/or cancel routes as a way to get our students to school. As the week progressed, it has become impossible to cover all of our routes and safely transport our students to school.

I know that this is a hardship for our families, especially given the short notice regarding this decision. I appreciate your support and understanding as we try to offer the best solution to keep our students in school.

Sincerely,
Jeff Wright
Superintendent Newaygo Public Schools

NPS is not the only school district dealing with Bus Driver Shortages. The Paw Paw School District said a few weeks back they will not be in a position to guarantee bus transportation for student-athletes to and from out-of-town athletic events. Holland Public Schools had to cancel routes in August due to a lack of drivers.
