Robocalls are the worst and expect it to get even worse through the rest of the month, especially in these next two weeks.

A study done by AllAreaCodes.com found that the number of complaints to the Federal Trade Commission increase in the weeks leading up to, and during, the week of April 15th (Tax Day). This was proven to be the case over the course of three years from 2016 to 2018.

As far as Michigan goes, the study found that we rank #11 in the state most at-risk for tax scam calls with 1,982 complaints per 100K people. The Metro Detroit area seems to be the most targeted with three counties coming in the top 100 counties with the most complaints in the U.S.:

So what does this mean for you? Don't answer a call related to your taxes. The IRS will NEVER call anyone for money.

Further, they will not call without first sending a bill in the mail, they will not ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone, and they will not threaten with the police or lawsuits.
