Ah, the wonderful smell of the BBQ going. Get those burgers, hot dogs, chicken, ribs, steaks and whatever you like to barbecue on the grill. Yum!

This is probably the farthest thing from your mind, but there actually are some meats that illegal to barbecue in Michigan!

Eating Horse meat is confusing in Michigan because it is actually LEGAL to eat it, but not to sell or distribute it according to World Population Review. So, basically, it must be illegal to barbecue.

In addition to being illegal, Enviroliteracy.org says:

"There are multiple factors involved, including high levels of toxins like mercury and DDT, the endangered status of many whale species, and the ethical concerns surrounding whaling itself."

Yes it is illegal to eat dog and cat meat in Michigan, but, according to Dog Time.com, sadly it is still legal in many other states! Awful!

Yes, disgusting as it is to think about, thankfully it is illegal to barbecue, cook, whatever, Owl meat in Michigan and has been in the U.S. since 1918 according to Chowhound.com.

Although turtle meat used to be very popular, because Americans were eating it in great abundance in the first half of the 20th century, the turtle population declined, and turtles were added to the Endangered Species Act of 1973 according to Chowhound.com
