In the latest clip and featurette for 'Maleficent,' Angelina Jolie suggests the film is faithful to the original story, and that her character loves being evil. We always figured that this film was a more modern take that cast Maleficent as the possible hero of the story, though this clip doesn't answer that question entirely. Which makes us curious how it plays out.

In the clip we see Sleeping Beauty (Elle Fanning) meet up with that cursed spindle that knocks her out, while Jolie's Maleficent races to reach her. But for what purpose? The footage looks like a live action storybook, so the film should be at least visually sumptuous (though the same could be said of early footage of 'Snow White and the Huntsman'). The featurette does more to tease our expectations, and suggests that Jolie -- if nothing else -- gets to have fun.

Jolie is joined by a cast that includes Sharlto Copley as King Stefan; Juno Temple, Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville as the three good fairies; up-and-comer Brenton Thwaites as Prince Phillip; and even Jolie’s own daughter, Vivienne, as a baby Princess Aurora. Here's the film's synopsis:
“Maleficent” explores the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the classic “Sleeping Beauty” and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turn her pure heart to stone. Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever.
And here's the new featurette. 'Maleficent' opens in theaters May 30.
