This story is swirling around America and West Michigan today. Macy's is for sale!

Yes, no, maybe, what is it? Is Macy's for sale, and if so what will become of their stores?

It's complicated, as they say. An investor group consisting of Arkhouse Management and Brigade Capital has made a $5.8 billion offer to take department store chain Macy's private, Reuters reported.

The investor group already has a big stake in Macy's through Arkhouse-managed funds and has discussed the proposal with the department store chain, whose board subsequently met to discuss the offer. It is not clear how the retailer views the proposal.

Retailing certainly has changed of late with so much online shopping happening and fewer and fewer people actually heading to the brick and mortar stores like Macy's.

What we're seeing is delivery trucks everywhere dropping packages at homes of online shoppers. So, with so much business being taken from the stores and placed online, many popular businesses haven't been able to keep up and have decided to close and cut their losses.

Will this happen to our two Macy's stores, Woodland Mall and Rivertown Crossings?

Let's face it, there are few stores with a more famous name than Macy's.

The retail giant is the centerpiece for the Thanksgiving parade and even featured in a bunch of Christmas movies. Macy's is part of the fabric of America and it's closing would sting big.

Even as online shopping has taken a bite out of retail stores, shopping local and supporting small businesses is very trendy now, so that is another big bite taken out of the larger stores.

But, to be truthful, no one has an answer here, yet. Will the Macy's board decide to sell? And if they do, will they close many of their locations to bring costs down???

Do you think Santa knows?
