Exciting Total Lunar Eclipse Tonight in Grand Rapids
This is very exciting for all of us in West Michigan because there will be a total lunar, the moon, eclipse tonight into very early tomorrow morning and you should be able to see it.
First of all, later tonight it will begin to glow, or turn red, according to our Fox 17 Meteorologists.

How does that happen?
It's the sun's rays coming through the Earth's atmosphere that does it, and it should be very cool. That effect should begin about 11:30 tonight.
Then Fox17 says it will take about 85 minutes to cover the moon's surface creating a total lunar eclipse for about an hour, ending close to 6 a.m. Friday, tomorrow, morning.
Here's the good news. The weather should be ideal with clear to partly cloudy skies. Wait, this is Michigan, are you kidding?
Nope. We have really lucked out with a great patch of weather and we should hold on to it tonight as well.
REMEMBER THE SOLAR ECLIPSE
It's also exciting because, unlike the last solar eclipse that was only sort of a partial one around here and you had to drive to Indiana to see most of it, this will be visible everywhere.
You don't need special glasses or anything. If you have a night time view of the moon tonight, look up and celebrate because you will see it and not drive to Indiana!
WHAT ACTUALLY IS A LUNAR ECLIPSE?
Very simply put, it is the earth's shadow from the sun that blocks the glow of the moon, so it goes dark, according to Yahoo.com/news!
The last time we saw a total lunar eclipse was in November of 2022.
Happy star gazing!
