Jordan Chance, the man convicted of murdering 31-year-old Ashley Young and mutilating her body, has been sentenced to what is effectively life in prison.

17th Circuit Judge Mark Trussock said during sentencing that the case was "extremely disturbing". He then announced that 30-year-old Chance would be spending 100-200 years in prison. He will not be eligible for parole until he is 130 years old.

Judge Trussock referred to Chance as a "very evil individual" who is "clearly a monster".

Five family members and close friends of Ashley Young gave victim impact statements at the sentencing.

When Chance was asked if he wanted to speak on his own behalf his only reply was "No."

Parts of Young's body were found in a box in the stairwell of Chance's apartment building. The rest of her body has never been found.

Chance's parents, Barbara and James, have been charged with perjury and being an accessory after the fact in the mutilation and disinterment of a dead body. They will go to trial in January.
