Michigan, Throw Out Your Canned Meat Before It Kills You

UPDATE: This article is based on a recall from January 2023. Conagra brand cocktail weenies are, as of this correction, safe to eat and have no active recalls.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE (based on January 2023 recall): Growing up, I would always have vienna sausages on deck for those low food days.

There is currently a recall on our canned meat favorites that is affecting the entire country and the state of Michigan.

What is going on? It feels like there is a new recall every single week.

Michigan, Throw Out Your Canned Meat Before It Kills You

Conagra Brands, Inc. is recalling roughly 2,581,816 pounds of canned meat and poultry products.

Why?

The products may have been contaminated because of a packaging defect, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

All of the meat products made between December 12th, 2022, and January 13, 2023, are the ones involved in the recall.

According to the report,

"The problem was discovered when the establishment notified FSIS after observing spoiled and/or leaking cans from multiple production dates at the establishment’s warehouse."

All products with the establishment number "P4247" have been recalled but were, unfortunately, shipped to retail locations nationwide.

"FSIS is concerned that some product may be on retail shelves or in consumers’ pantries. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase."
