But here's something that might surprise fans on both sides of the rivalry.
Michigan State actually holds a pretty impressive record against the Wolverines.
And no, we're not talking about the number of times you've heard someone yell "Go Green" in public.
How Many Times Has Michigan State Beaten Michigan?
Since the two schools first met in 1898, Michigan State has defeated Michigan 38 times.
Now, before Wolverines fans start celebrating, Michigan still leads the all-time series with 75 wins, compared to Michigan State's 38 victories and five ties.
Not exactly something for the Spartans to brag about.
BUT! Here's where things get interesting.
Only One College Football Team Has Beaten Michigan More
Despite Michigan's commanding lead in the rivalry, only one other college football program has defeated the Wolverines more times than Michigan State.
And, of course, it HAS to be Ohio State.
That's right. Michigan State ranks second among all college football programs in victories against the Wolverines.
(What even is Ohio?)
Michigan State's Most Memorable Wins Against Michigan
And some of those wins have been pretty unforgettable.
Remember 2015?
Michigan State pulled off one of the wildest finishes in college football history when a botched Michigan punt turned into a last-second Spartans touchdown.
Then there was 2021, when Kenneth Walker III scored five touchdowns to help Michigan State overcome a 16-point deficit and defeat Michigan 37-33.
Of course, Michigan has had the upper hand recently, winning the last four meetings.
When Do Michigan State and Michigan Play in 2026?
Now, the two programs are preparing to face each other again this November in Ann Arbor.
And no matter which side you're cheering for, there's nothing quite like a little Michigan rivalry drama.
