There have been plenty of Michigan Bigfoot sighting hoaxes over the years – so many, that every time we hear another one, we just shrug it off and think, “yeah, right...”.

Then every great once in a blue moon, there’s a report that sounds legitimate...like the sighting that occurred in Monroe in May 2025.

On May 18, a father and his 12-year-old son were out bow fishing in a forest swamp in southeast Monroe. They heard a strange rustling in a tree, too heavy for a bird or squirrel; the rustling was immediately followed by a loud thud, like a body falling to the ground.

When they looked in the direction of the thud, they saw some kind of large animal heading in their direction. Luckily the father and son had their dog with them, and it took off after the creature. The hulk zoomed through the trees, with the dog in pursuit, and proceeded to move up a slope. Worried about the dog, the dad called him back and the chase was over.

When details of this occurrence was reported to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, they concluded that the sighting was credible and legitimate.

According to the Detroit News, the father and son described the creature “as big as a bear and looked like a gorilla.....when it ascended the slope, they said it was hunched over while running on two legs. Even hunched over, it was six feet tall. It clearly had a hairy back and a big rear end.”

The sighting took place behind the Monroe County Inmate Dormitory, in a swampy area near Tamarack Creek that is plentiful in cattails and deer, which are two things on the list of favorite Bigfoot foods.

There will continue to be those who scoff at reports like this, but one day, those who do believe will get the last laugh.
