Did you know that infamous Chicago gangster Al Capone had hideouts in Paw Paw and Constantine?

Al Capone was a very violent organized crime leader in Chicago in the 1920s.  He had his hands on everything from prostitution, gambling and murder.  But he is best known for bootlegging during prohibition.  I take that back.  He's most famous for one particular act of violence according to History.com,

... the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre in 1929, in which he ordered the assassination of seven rivals.

(Keep scrolling to see amazing photos of multiple Michigan homes that belonged to Al Capone.)

What does this have to do with Southwest Michigan?  When you need to relax after a long season of murder and debauchery you come to Pure Michigan.  Legend has it, that Capone owned a mansion in Constantine, Michigan called "Purgatory."  There's not much left of it today.  However, I did find a video tour of what's left of this alleged safe house for the violent gangster.

There are also many reports that Al Capone owned a beautiful home in Paw Paw on Three Mile Lake.  This beautiful lake house on 41st Street sold for $769,000 back in 2018.  At the height of the most recent housing bubble in July 2023, this home had an estimated value of $1.1 million.  Not a bad pad overlooking the lake with the newly renovated Manor and Carriage homes.

There are a total of 80 photos of this home.  You can see all of the pictures by clicking here.

Al Capone's Beachfront Getaway: Frankfort

Did Al Capone Use This Spring Lake Home for Bootlegging?

A Spring Lake, Mich., home with an interesting history is on the market. According to locals, it was used by Al Capone for bootlegging in the 1920s and 30s. An underground tunnel on the property was part of the operation. This lakefront home also boasts multiple decks, a gazebo, and a four season room.

The Tudor-style residence is for sale for $1.69M.
